Rug designs inspired by Ruggable. Keeping in mind their target demographic, branding, and cohesive aesthetics within each specific category.

GOALS

  1. Create a design that blends within Ruggable's designs in the specific style category.

  2. Create a design that is different from everything currently within Ruggable's specific style category.

RESEARCH

I spent some time on the Ruggable website looking for rugs that fit the category with the "Best-Selling" filter selected.

IDEATION

Moodboard

I then proceeded to Pinterest for quick inspiration.

I opted for more Mid-Century and less Modern in my moodboard while keeping the color palette in mind.

Thumbnails

I drew 3 thumbnails before arriving to the design I attempted.

I felt that a new spin on trendy checkered board patterns would be the winner.

I liked the idea of combining all 3 thumbnails in the end.

Random colored checkered + Not exactly squared + adding random star elements.

DESIGN

Colorways

After looking at the Ruggable catalogue I decided that having a light neutral (original), a dark neutral, and a fun bright version would not only fit into the Ruggable catalogue but also appeal to a wide variety of customers who might enjoy different Mid-Century aesthetics.

Interior Moodboards

I created a mockup for each colorway in the hopes of seeing it in its natural habitat.

INTEGRATION OF DESIGN

Overall, I think the design both fits into the current Mid-Century Modern catalogue while looking different enough to be included in a separate launch.
